You are not alone.

According to the 2016 South African Demographic and Health Survey:

  • Over 68% of South African women are overweight or obese.
  • Obesity prevalence in South Africa has tripled since 1980.
  • A study found that 50% of South African women are on a weight loss diet at any given time.
  • Only 27.7% of South African women meet the recommended physical activity guidelines.
  • South African women have higher rates of metabolic syndrome, which increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and other health issues.
  • South African women are more likely to experience weight-related stigma and discrimination, which can negatively impact mental health and body image.

These statistics highlight the urgent need for effective weight loss solutions, such as RESET, to help women in South Africa achieve and maintain a healthy weight, improve their overall health, and reduce their risk of obesity-related diseases.

Some harsh facts:

For every 100 women in South Africa...

58 %
are obese or overweight
40 %
are on a diet at any given time
80 %
will rebound after trying to lose weight

It's time for a new approach.

If 90% of women who start a weight loss program rebound, this further highlights the need for a new approach rather than just diet and exercise. We need to bring awareness to the emotional factors that also work against our efforts. Emotional factors like stress, anxiety, and low self-esteem can play a significant role in your ability to stick to a weight loss plan and that’s what we aim to address.

Holistic Focus

What we already know:
Physical factors

  • Genetic and hereditary factors can make it more difficult for individuals to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight.
  • As we age, our metabolism slows down, making it harder to lose weight and keep it off.
  • Hormonal changes can affect weight, such as during pregnancy or menopause.
  • Lack of physical activity can lead to weight gain.
  • Time constraints mean that busy schedules make it difficult to find time for exercise and meal planning.

What we need to remember:
Emotional Factors

  • Stress, whether at work or home, can lead to overeating and unhealthy food choices as a coping mechanism.
  • Depression, anxiety and low self esteem can lead to a decrease in physical activity due to fatigue or lack of motivation and an increase in unhealthy food choices.
  • Unresolved trauma can lead to emotional eating as a coping mechanism.
  • Unrealistic expectations can lead to disappointment and discouragement.
